Bodaq® Fire Ratings and Certifications

All standard Bodaq® interior film finishes pass ASTM E84 Class A for US interior use. The FR marking in the Hyundai L&C catalog refers to Korea's flame-retardant approval (방염, KS F 2271) and is a Korea-specific designation, not the US rating. Results are also reported to CAN/ULC-S102 and DIN 4102-1; reports are issued per pattern series and available on request. Surface Supply is the Official Authorized US Distributor of Bodaq® Interior Film, manufactured by Hyundai L&C.

What is tested

Bodaq is tested to the surface-burning standard in each of its three main markets. Ask for the report that matches your jurisdiction and the pattern series on your schedule.

Standard Market What it measures and the Bodaq result
ASTM E84 United States Surface burning characteristics of building materials (flame spread and smoke developed). Bodaq interior film finishes achieve a Class A result.
CAN/ULC-S102 Canada Surface burning characteristics of building materials and assemblies. Results are on file per pattern series.
DIN 4102-1 Europe Fire behaviour of building materials. Bodaq is reported at class B1, not easily flammable.

Class A under ASTM E84 is the classification most US building codes call for on interior wall and ceiling finishes in commercial occupancies, which is why it is usually the gating question on hospitality, healthcare, education, and multifamily work. For a general primer on reading these standards see Fire Ratings for Vinyl Wraps: What to Check Before You Order.

What the Korean flame-retardant marking means

The Hyundai L&C catalog prints a 방염 (flame-retardant) marking against some patterns and a 비방염 (non-flame-retardant) marking against others. This refers to Korea's flame-retardant approval, tested to Korean standard KS F 2271, and is a Korea-specific designation. It is not the US fire rating.

In practice this means two things. First, a pattern with no flame-retardant marking still passes ASTM E84 with a Class A result, so you do not need to limit a US interior project to the marked patterns. Second, the marking is not a substitute for the report: a US plan reviewer will want the ASTM E84 result for the series, not a Korean catalog symbol. Where the marking appears in the catalog PDF or on the bodaqfilms.com pattern index, read it as Korea's own flame-retardant approval, separate from the US result.

Older copy on this site and elsewhere treated the marker as the line between fire-rated and non-fire-rated finishes. Hyundai L&C has confirmed to Surface Supply that this was wrong for the US market, and it has been corrected here.

How to request the report

Because reports are issued per pattern series rather than per individual pattern, the report you receive covers every code in that series. The series is the letter prefix on the pattern code: W for Natural Wood, ZX for Premium Wood, SPW for Origin Wood, S for Solid Color, SMT for Super Matte, NS for Natural Stone, PM for Stone & Marble, RM for Real Metal, and so on.

  1. Fix the pattern codes. Write the code (for example W949, NS202, SMT03), not the descriptive name, into the finish schedule. Names repeat across series; codes do not.
  2. Tell us the standard. ASTM E84 for US work, CAN/ULC-S102 for Canada, DIN 4102-1 for Europe.
  3. Contact Surface Supply with the codes and the standard. We send the current report for each series together with a pattern-code mapping so a reviewer can trace your finish to the tested material.
  4. Request at submittal time. Hyundai L&C is supplying the full certification package to Surface Supply and reports are updated, so ask for the current version rather than reusing a file from an earlier project.

Elevator cabs

Elevator interiors are one of the most common commercial uses for Bodaq because a cab can be refinished overnight. Hyundai L&C's technical bulletin records elevator compliance references to ASME A17.1 in the United States, CSA B44 in Canada, and TSSA. Confirm the pattern-specific documentation with your elevator contractor and the authority having jurisdiction, since cab interiors are usually the most closely reviewed surface on a project. See How to Choose the Best Architectural Films for Elevators.

How to read this page

This page states the tested result for the Bodaq interior film line as confirmed by the manufacturer. It does not replace the report. Results are issued per pattern series, and the flame-spread and smoke-developed figures a reviewer may ask for come from the report for that series, so always request the current report for the exact codes in your submittal and publish figures from that document rather than from a summary. Bodaq's Exterior Film series has its own documentation; ask when specifying it.

Beyond fire, Hyundai L&C publishes heavy-metal, phthalate, and Environmental Product Declaration data for the film, summarized on the bodaqfilms.com performance page. Surface Supply can send the underlying documents with the fire report.
